Post-GME Assignments

There are multiple requirements for Air Force physicians in Graduate Medical Education to keep their record up to date and to be released for a post-GME assignment.

Physician Education Requirements

Submit the following documents to AFPC / DPMNP Physician Education if not previously submitted.

1. Step/Level 3 score report (taken by March 15 of PGY1)

2. Unrestricted state medical license (issued by March 15 of PGY2)

In addition, physicians in deferred or re-deferred GME will need to complete and submit a Reserve Component Health Risk Assessment form during their final PGY and prior to entering extended active duty. This is a self-reporting health assessment and does not require a physician’s signature. The AFPC Medical Retention Standards team will contact you via email if additional information is required.

RCHRA forms must be submitted through your myFSS account through the “Ask a Question” feature (full step-by-step instructions). (Note: This site is restricted and requires a common access card or User ID and Password; users without proper credentials will receive a website error message)

3. RCHRA Form

Important: The RCHRA form is not required if you are already on active duty.

Physician Utilization Requirements

You will receive an email from your assignment officer in December of your final PGY. This email will include all the information that you will need as you transition out of GME/training to a fully qualified position in your specialty.

Questions regarding post-GME assignments can be sent to AFPC / DPMNP Med Corps Utilization.

Medical Special Pay

GME graduates may be eligible for Incentive Pay and Board Certification Pay.

Medical Special Pay does not start automatically. A completed contract is required to initiate the payments.

Please visit the Medical Special Pay myFSS website to find the Medical Corps Pay Plan, contracts, and full details on how and when to apply for this benefit. (Note: This site is restricted and requires a common access card or User ID and Password; users without proper credentials will receive a website error message)

If you have additional questions regarding Medical Special Pay, please contact the AFPC Medical Special Pay Office by calling the Total Force Service Center (TFSC) at 210-565-0102 or Toll Free 1-800-525-0102 or emailing the TFSC.
