Wilford Hall ER closed, UCC handles only minor medical issues
Senior Airman Brittany Prichett takes Airman 1st Class Ronald Frost's blood pressure July 12 in the new Urgent Care Center at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. The UCC replaced the Wilford Hall emergency room which closed July 1, 2011. The UCC treats acute minor illnesses and injuries and is not equipped or staffed to handle serious cases. Woodson leaves legacy of a modernized military medical system ready for the future

During more than half a decade at the Health Affairs helm, Woodson has guided the Military Health System through two wars and seismic changes in how health care is delivered throughout the military.

Dr. Jonathan Woodson, left, assistant secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, speaks with President Barack Obama at the White House. Woodson, who has served as ASD for Health Affairs for five and a half years, is stepping down at the end of April and returning to Boston University School of Medicine. As he moves on from his position, Woodson reiterated it was a team effort that helped him succeed, and in turn, ensured the success of the Military Health System. He feels he’s leaving the organization better than he found it, and his successors will continue in that vein.
