A1C Jessica Tamuzza, a laboratory technician with the 99th Medical Support Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., is an Air Force Medical Service Trusted Care Hero. Tamuzza is recognized for making a great safety catch. While in the ward, she noticed a patient whose armband name differed from the name on the test labels. Following her training, Tamuzza confirmed the error, alerted the nursing staff, and refused to draw blood. Even though she had alerted the staff, the patient’s blood was still drawn. She then alerted the lab staff and the blood was not processed. Tamuzza represents what the culture of AFMS Trusted Care is all about.
