Medical professionals across the U.S. will recognize the contribution of radiation technologists during the National Radiologic Technology week Nov. 5 – 11. This celebration takes place each year during the week of Nov. 8 to commemorate the discovery of the x-ray by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on Nov. 8, 1895, and calls attention to the important role that medical imaging and radiation therapy plays in patient care and health safety.

Mark Ediger, Air Force Surgeon General, and Chief Master Sgt. Steve Cum, Jr., Air Force Surgeon General medical enlisted force chief, during a visit to the 81st Medical Group Oct. 17, 2017, on Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi. The purpose of Ediger’s visit was to get familiar with the 81st MDG’s mission, operations and personnel. Lt. Gen. Mark Ediger, Surgeon General of the Air Force, toured the Keesler Medical Center, Oct. 17, exploring their mission and meeting the personnel who accomplish it. During his tour, he visited more than 10 different units in the 81st Medical Group to include mammography, emergency department, radiology & oncology, genetics and the clinical research lab. Since Keesler Medical Center sustained damage in 2005 from Hurricane Katrina, they have taken huge steps in patient care and their capabilities.
