Scott couple share love of body building and nutrition Published Sept. 10, 2013 By Airman Megan Friedl 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- What started out as a hobby to stay physically fit and in shape has become a passion for a military couple. Donovan and Rebecca Pepley began exercising together five years ago after they met while working in security forces. "He pushes me to the max every time and motivates me to want to be better," said Rebecca, a staff sergeant with the 375th Civil Engineer Squadron. Donovan said they work out together as training partners, five to six days a week. At the gym one begins repetitions while the other spots and then they switch and continue to do that on other machines throughout their whole workout. Donovan has been training for body building competitions for eight years and has competed in six competitions. Rebecca has trained for five years and has one figure competition under her belt. They both hope to continue to do at least one competition every year for as long as they are able to. "It takes a lot of discipline, and you sacrifice a lot of other things in life in order to compete," said Donovan, also a staff sergeant with the 375th Contracting Squadron. Their commitment to nutrition is a large part of their appearance. Rebecca and Donovan follow a healthy diet throughout the year. Twenty weeks before a show Donovan begins a strict diet to maximize results. Donovan said the work they put into maintaining a strong and healthy body has many benefits. "This makes PT tests a breeze," said Donovan, who is a physical training leader for his squadron, helping fellow Airmen to follow a healthy workout routine. The Pepleys are also personal trainers. One of the people Donovan coaches is his co-worker, Airman 1st Class Jordan Vanderflier. Every Sunday, Donovan checks the current diet that he puts Vanderflier on and his weight. Then once a month body fat measurements are checked. Based on the results he is getting, Donovan then customizes his diet if need be for optimal results. He also guides him on recommended exercises and what set and repetition range to use when training. Vanderflier, said, "They are both passionate about nutrition and fitness. They are truly an inspiration, and their ability to train, push each other and maintain different diets is truly awesome." USAF.
