  • Total Force medics help support FEMA in vaccine efforts

    As of April 29, approximately 1.5 million people worldwide have tested positive for COVID-19, making vaccination efforts more crucial than ever. A team of approx. 140 Airmen from 24 bases spread throughout the U.S. have come together in St. Paul, Minn., to help support the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the effort to vaccinate Americans from COVID-19.

    The vaccination facility, which is designed to administer 3,000 shots a day (though it hit 5,636 shots in a single day earlier this month), is under the control of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the state of Florida. However, a staff of 139 active duty Airmen from 25 bases across 22 states make up the operational engine providing vaccinations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.

U.S. Army North, the Joint Force Land Component Command of U.S. Northern Command, will oversee the multi-service military COVID-19 response operation in support of the states and the federal vaccination pilot.

    Department of Defense members assembled Feb. 24 in Florida to provide flexible support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency as part of the whole-of-government response to COVID-19. Service members have temporarily been assigned to Fifteenth Air Force, under U.S. Northern Command’s Joint Force Land Component Command, U.S. Army North.
  • 42nd MDG Airmen leave for deployment

    The 25 deployed Airmen, which included clinicians, nurses, pharmacy technicians, medical technicians, logisticians and administrative personnel, joined the 335th Air Expeditionary Group, comprised of nearly 150 Airmen from bases across the country. The 335th AEG will man a FEMA vaccination center in Brooklyn, capable of administering 3,000 vaccinations daily.
