During the recent mission, the Air Force Special Operations Surgical Team was reduced to working out of a small, one-story abandoned home. This space became the operating room they used to see more than 700 patients over the course of the two months they were there. SOST members are military medical professionals selected to provide battlefield trauma and other surgical support in a special operations mission set. SOST members often forward deploy to austere or hostile areas to perform life-saving trauma surgery for special operators with little to no facility support. (U.S. Air Force photo/Released)
