A team of Air Force surgeons from Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas assumed operations of the Balad Air Base, Iraq, Level III surgical hospital from the Army's 31st Combat Support Hospital in Sept. 2004. Because of their high level of training in trauma care at WHMC, the Air Force doctors were ready and able to take over on a moment's notice. Since that time, thousands of other Air Force medics, also trained at Wilford Hall, have handled 22,173 surgical cases at Balad's Air Force Theater Hospital. Pictured left to right, Maj. Greg Abrahamian, Maj. Steven Abbate, Lt. Col. Michael Eppinger, Lt. Col. Donald Jenkins, Maj. Dennis Zagronik and Maj. Darrin Danielson. (U.S. Air Force Photo)
