Maggie arrives at her new home

SAN ANDREAS, Calif. -- Female African elephants go to Pat Derby at the Performing Animals Welfare Society, or PAWS. The elephants will become companions of Maggie, a 25-year-old African elephant, who left Alaska Thursday on a journey from Anchorage to California aboard an Air Force C-17 Globemaster III. Maggie's trainers from the Alaska Zoo, who traveled with her, will stay for several weeks to help her adjust to life in the sanctuary. Derby is a co-founder and president of PAWS.
