Scott opens new aeromedical evacuation facility

The front entrance to the new $7.4 million, 21,500 sq. ft. building which houses the 375th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron just moments before the Feb. 6, 2012 ceremonial ribbon cutting at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. This building represents where the Air Force is going in new construction—LEED certification, which stands for Leadership, Energy and Environmental Design—which provides a framework for designers to work toward sustainable buildings. For Scott AFB, that means energy efficiency, being better to the environment and saving money in operational costs. The Air Force designs its buildings toward a “silver” certification award, and Scott AFB hopes to earn a “Gold” LEED certification. (U.S. Air Force photo/Karen Petitt)
