A U.S. Air Force member from the 354th Security Forces Squadron lifts weights during an OST fitness session November 7, 2023 at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. The OST is a multidisciplinary medical team of active duty and civilian personnel that temporarily embeds with operational units on base to address musculoskeletal and mental health injuries, with a focus on preventative health. Maj. Korey Kasper, 37th Training Wing Human Performance Squadron sports medicine physician, poses for a photo at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, March 1, 2023. Between 2012 and 2014 the 37th TRW embedded athletic trainers in Basic Military Training and found that treating injuries within the squadron saved the Air Force nearly $11 million and drastically reduced the amount of trainees not completing BMT due to musculoskeletal injuries.
