New parents have a hard job. And after sleepless nights, new emotions and just trying to figure out the whole parenting ‘thing,’ your new addition isn’t feeling well.

Did you know that you can call TRICARE’s Nurse Advice Line (NAL) 24 hours a day, seven days a week? More than half of the calls to the NAL are pediatric in nature. This is great news for a new parent worried about bumps, bruises, coughs, fevers and whatever else may happen to your little one.

The NAL team can help new parents learn about health problems children face and how best to assess next steps. Please make sure that your child is present so you can evaluate their condition as the nurse asks questions. Depending on the circumstances and age of your child, the nurse may ask to speak to your child directly. Feel free to stay on another line or use a speakerphone option if that would make you more comfortable. A call to the NAL can help you avoid unnecessary trips to the emergency room and guide you to medical care if necessary.

Children can become ill at a moment’s notice and you have a registered nurse at your fingertips. Having access to a trusted medical professional at a moment’s notice is invaluable.  Call the NAL at 1-800-TRICARE (874-2273), option 1. To learn more about the NAL visit us online.
