One of our own, one of the best Published Aug. 14, 2013 By Lakenheath AFB Public Affairs 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Air Force officials recently announced the service's top enlisted members, naming the 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year for 2013, and one of RAF Lakenheath's Airmen is among the group. Staff Sgt. Lauren Everett is an Aerospace Medical Service journeyman assigned to the 48th Inpatient Squadron as a maternal child care technician here. As a shift leader and supply custodian, Everett expertly communicates and coordinates care of laboring patients and their newborns. She also maintains critical item levels for the largest labor and delivery unit and Storknest Center in U.S. Air Forces in Europe with 35,000 beneficiaries throughout Europe. Since arriving at RAF Lakenheath in June 2012, Everett has authored five supply checklists, supported 452 deliveries, identified and reversed critical levels for jaundiced babies, and consolidated five-step deployment process, saving the Air Force over $3.6 million in private sector costs. While currently deployed, Everett has continued to display excellence with her leadership and job performance. This year 36 nominees representing major commands, direct reporting units, field operating agencies, and Headquarters Air Force were considered. The board selected 12 Airmen based on superior leadership, job performance and personal achievements. The winners are authorized to wear the Outstanding Airman of the Year Ribbon with the bronze service star device on the ribbon. They are also authorized to wear the Outstanding Airman of the Year Badge for one year from the date of formal presentation. The Air Force Association will honor the 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year in September during its Air and Space Conference and Technology Exposition in Washington, D.C.
