Medical center begins modernization project Published Aug. 27, 2013 NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The 99th Medical Group will begin construction on the Multi-Departmental Hospital Modernization project at Mike O'Callaghan Federal Medical Center with an official wall-breaking ceremony to officially kick off construction Aug. 28. Pediatrics, cardio-pulmonary and the surgery clinic have already begun the initial department moves for construction. Women's health, labor and delivery, intensive care unit and the chapel will be the first areas to see these extensive healthcare design improvements. Additionally, a state of the art hybrid operating room suite is being added along with an enhanced medical surgical unit, sleep lab and pharmacy. With a focus on health and wellness, the architects, interior designers and general contractor have created a design that highlights an inviting and open atmosphere where patients are the priority. This extensive clinic modernization includes space design and layout improvements, new admissions, department lobby renovations and state-of-the-art equipment for improved patient care. The on-site construction trailer for General Contractor, United Excel, and the Initial Outfitting Contractor, Mill Creek, has been delivered to the base.
