Originally open only to enlisted members, the 29-month program is open to enlisted, officers and Academy and Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets, said Kevin Smith, AFPC Biomedical Sciences Corps education manager. The program includes 16 months of academic training followed by 13 months of "clerkship" at a military medical facility, Smith said. Once enlisted members complete the program, they will be commissioned as first lieutenants. Senior airmen selected for IPAP will be promoted to staff sergeant the day before they depart for the course and technical sergeants and above selected for promotion will pin on before their program entry date as well. Selectees, on average, were 29 years old with close to eight years of service, had an SAT composite score of 1,704 and a 3.39 academic grade point average, said Smith.
