AF/SG lauds extraordinary Joint lifesaving effort during MHS conference

  • Published
During the recent Military Health System conference in Washington, Air Force Surgeon General Lt. Gen. (Dr.) James G. Roudebush devoted roughly half of his 25-minute plenary session briefing to the extraordinary Joint effort that went into saving the life of Army Sgt. Dan Powers.

Powers, a squad leader with the Army's 118th Military Police Company, was stabbed in the brain by an insurgent on the streets of East Baghdad on July 3, 2007. What happened in the following 24 hours, in the words of Air Force Times reporter Patrick Winn "triggered a miracle of military medicine, logistics, technology and air power."

Roudebush's compelling briefing was augmented by the inclusion of seven people, who represented the hundreds of Army, Navy, Air Force, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard troops who contributed to saving his life.

The event was made all the more meaningful by the presence of Sgt. Powers and his wife Trudy.  Video of the event can be viewed HERE
