Brig. Gen. (Dr.) Hepburn to become AF deputy surgeon general Published June 12, 2009 WASHINGTON -- Brig. Gen. (Dr.) Byron C. Hepburn will become the next deputy surgeon general of the Air Force, senior service officials announced June 11. General Hepburn currently serves as the commander of the Air Force Medical Support Agency in the office of the AF Surgeon General at Bolling AFB. He will succeed Maj. Gen. (Dr.) Charles Bruce Green, who has been selected for this third star and will become the Air Force's 20th surgeon general in August. General Hepburn is a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. He is also one of 15 U.S. Air Force pilot-physicians. He is a command pilot, who has compiled 3,000 flight hours, and has flown four different aircraft: T-37, T-38, C-9A and C-17A. The general has commanded a medical squadron, group and center, and has served as command surgeon for both U.S. European Command and Air Mobility Command.
