Retirement announcement from Lt. Gen. Robert I. Miller

Hello AFMS Family,

I wanted to take the opportunity to officially announce my upcoming retirement as your U.S. Air Force Surgeon General, which will take place June 14. There will be more information regarding that coming soon. While it is difficult to put into words how much the last three years has meant to me, I do know serving our talented force has been an incredible honor and privilege. Each of you has made this job so rewarding, from being the backbone of medical readiness for Airmen and Guardians to embracing challenging but necessary organizational changes.

I would also like to congratulate CMSgt. Dawn Kolczynski, who will soon be sharing her expertise with the Defense Health Agency. Chief Kolczynski has served as your Department of the Air Force Medical Enlisted Force Chief and has the distinction of being the first for the U.S. Space Force. She brought her years of impactful experience to this role. Saying “thank you” is not enough to express my gratitude to have worked alongside her as my Wingman.

There has yet to be an announcement on who will be your next Surgeon General, but we will keep you informed as soon as acceptable. As you all know, the next DAF CMEF will be CMSgt. James Woods, who is currently serving as the Medical Operations Chief. While he does have big shoes to fill, I have full confidence he will serve you all well as your next CMEF.

Again, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to lead and serve. I have the highest level of confidence in seeing the continued growth of this great organization because of all of you!

Robert I. Miller
Lieutenant General, USAF, MC, CFS
