Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson visited Yokota Air Base, Jan. 30, 2018, during her Indo-Pacific region tour.

The visit showcased many of Wilson’s priorities for the future of the Air Force -- readiness, modernization, innovation, leader development and deepening of partnerships.

During this visit, Wilson conducted an all-call with Airmen of all ranks, taking the time to hear their concerns and ideas.

“I’m always looking forward to meeting with Airmen, learning about the mission, about what I can help commanders with and what are the stories that I need to bring back to make sure Airmen are getting what they need,” said Wilson.

Wilson also spoke to Airmen about the importance of the U.S.-Japan alliance in the Pacific theater.

“The U.S. plays an important role with our allies in maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific,” said Wilson. “No nation is strong enough on its own. We have to do it with and through our allies. The relationship between the U.S., Japan and other allies in the region is absolutely vital.”

Interacting with the Airmen at Yokota provided Wilson with a better understanding of what takes place at Yokota and the amount of work that it takes to accomplish the mission.

“I have enjoyed the engagement with Airmen,” added Wilson. “I like being outside of the Pentagon and just seeing what people are doing, being surprised by the ingenuity and their ability to get after the job and do it.”
