Exercise can do loads of good to your body, including keeping your heart healthy!  According to the Heart and Vascular Institute of the Cleveland Clinic1, exercise not only improves your heart health, it also reduces your heart disease risk factors.  Below are tips on safe exercise that will give your heart the most benefit

  1. Be sure to engage in moderate to vigorous intensity aerobic exercise.  Examples include walking, cycling, swimming, or jogging.
  2. Be regular with your exercise regimen. Perform moderate intensity exercise on most days of the week.  Start small and build up to 30 minutes or more per exercise session.
  3. Follow the 10% rule: be sure to add no more than 10% of distance, time, or intensity to your weekly exercise sessions.
  4. Be safe! If you have any type of medical condition, or have been sedentary for long periods of time, consult your healthcare provider before beginning an exercise regimen.
