Brig. Gen. Michelle Wagner is the Mobilization Assistant to the Surgeon General of the Air Force, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia. As the Mobilization Assistant, she assists the Surgeon General in directing the Air Force Medical Service operations, composed of a $6.1 billion, 44,000-person integrated health care delivery system serving 2.6 million beneficiaries at 76 military treatment facilities worldwide while directly supporting a $42 billion Defense Health Program portfolio. She oversees the daily functions of the Air Force Surgeon General’s office and Air Force Medical Command with offices in Arlington and Falls Church, Virginia, Fort Detrick, Maryland, and San Antonio, Texas. Included in these functions are clinical operations, aeromedical evacuation, global force management, readiness, strategic medical plans, programs and budget, medical force management, and medical information systems management.
Brig. Gen. Wagner coordinates AFMS and AFMEDCOM operations through major commands, joint service agencies, the Assistant Secretary of War (Health Affairs), the Defense Health Agency and the Department of Veteran Affairs. Additionally, she serves as the Air Force Reserve Command Medical Functional leader.
Brig. Gen. Wagner earned a direct commission in 1995. Throughout her 30-year officer career she commanded an Aeromedical Staging Squadron and the largest Air Force Reserve Aerospace Medicine Squadron serving more than 3,500 personnel, served as the Reserve Deputy Command Surgeon, Joint Transportation Reserve Unit, the MA to the Commander, Air Force Medical Readiness Agency, and the MA to the Command Surgeon, Headquarters Air Combat Command. Prior to assuming her current assignment, Brig. Gen. Wagner was the MA to the Deputy Surgeon General of the Air Force. In her civilian capacity, Brig. Gen. Wagner owns a financial advisor firm where she manages more than 30 million dollars in assets.
