Brig. Gen. James McClain, Air Force Medical Support Agency commander, tried to cover as much ground as he could during his short visit to the San Antonio area.

McClain started early Dec. 8, 2014, as the keynote speaker at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Consortium Winter Commencement ceremony, held at the San Antonio Military Medical Center on JBSA-Fort Sam Houston. Shortly after, he met with the SAUSHEC dean, Dr. W. Scott Jones, to discuss the benefits and future of allied health care, and the efficiencies of integrated environments.

McClain also toured areas of the 959th Medical Group Biomedical Service Corps to include the simulation center, in-patient pharmacy, and emergency department.

Before leaving SAMMC, McClain held a BSC call to pass on information about upcoming changes and opportunities in the military medical field, and to answer questions.

After his visit at SAMMC, McClain visited the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center at JBSA-Lackland, where he had previously served as vice commander of the 59th Medical Wing.

While at the WHASC, Col. John Andrus, 59th Medical Operations Group commander, led McClain on Lean Daily Management rounds through various work centers to further explain the LDM process and goals. Lean Daily Management allows clinics to identify and improve processes that need improvement and determine the root cause through data collection.

McClain wrapped up the day with a BSC call for corps members at WHASC. "This is a great time to be in the military medical field," McClain emphasized. "We are in the beginning of a lot of change, and it can be frustrating, but it is also a great time for opportunity.
