Air Force, Army internal medicine residents win at national competition Published May 26, 2009 By Sue Campbell 59th Medical Wing Public Affairs LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Internal medicine residents from the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium Internal Medicine Residency recently competed in the American College of Physicians 2009 Internal Medicine competition, held April 23-25 in Philadelphia. The residents won awards in every category. "It's rare for one program to have people accepted to compete at the national level, yet alone win in each category," said Capt. Frederick Flynt, chief of residents of the joint Internal Medical Resident Program. "Some of the programs had more than 300 competitors." Air Force Capt. Joshua Durham and Air Force Capt. Brian Neubauer competed and were two of the top 10 winners in the research podium competition. Air Force Capt. Adam Bostick and AF Maj. Erik Schwalier competed in the research poster competition. Captain Bostick was one of the top 10 winners in this category. Air Force Capt Brian Neubauer, Air Force Capt. David Arner, Army Capt. Brian Haney, and Army Capt. Jennifer Blevins competed in the clinical vignette poster competition. Captain Arner was one of the top 10 winners in this category. The joint services team, comprised of Army Capt. John Symons, Air Force Capt. Ben Morrow and Air Force Capt. Brian Neubauer placed 5th overall in the Jeopardy/Challenge Bowl/Doctor's Dilemma competition. "Their success can be directly attributed to the outstanding relationship that Wilford Hall Medical Center and Brooke Army Medical Center enjoy," said Captain Flynt.
