On the early morning of June 10th, the Acute Lung Rescue Team flew with short notice to El Paso, Texas, to perform a life saving Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation procedure on a patient and medically evacuated him all in under 12 hours. On June 3, 2018, the Fuego Volcano erupted in Guatemala. Within 72 hours, a team of seven 59th Medical Wing pediatric intensive care doctors, respiratory specialists, and nurses were on the ground in Guatemala City to provide care for six children injured by the eruption. The injured patients were flown to Galveston, Texas, to receive further care at the Shriners Hospital for Children. The mission was a joint effort with San Antonio Military Medical Center’s Burn Flight Team and Mississippi Air National Guard’s 172d Airlift Wing.
