Premiered at the 2018 AFMS Senior Leadership Workshop, this video highlights how Airmen from all 17 enlisted medical career fields are warfighters who should feel proud of their wartime service and responsibilities. They are the backbone of Air Force Medical Service and disruptive innovators, in which success or failure rests on their shoulders.
Deployed mental health providers work closely with leadership to help maintain warfighter resiliency and readiness. Service members are away from their usual support systems during deployment, and because the environment and stress puts them in unusual situations, they require innovative and flexible forms of mental health care.
Check out the highlights of what happened around the AFMS during November 2018.
As the Air Force Medical Service undergoes transformation, medical Airmen maintain an unwavering commitment to readiness and Trusted Care.

On the early morning of June 10th, the Acute Lung Rescue Team flew with short notice to El Paso, Texas, to perform a life saving Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation procedure on a patient and medically evacuated him all in under 12 hours. This is just another example of our warrior medics having global reach and expert care any time, anywhere. Great job team!

On June 3, 2018, the Fuego Volcano erupted in Guatemala. Within 72 hours, a team of seven 59th Medical Wing pediatric intensive care doctors, respiratory specialists, and nurses were on the ground in Guatemala City to provide care for six children injured by the eruption. The injured patients were flown to Galveston, Texas, to receive further care at the Shriners Hospital for Children. The mission was a joint effort with San Antonio Military Medical Center’s Burn Flight Team and Mississippi Air National Guard’s 172d Airlift Wing.
