As Air Force Medicine continues to go through organizational change, the MAJCOM Surgeons are hard at work, playing a pivotal role in the Air Force’s ability to stay on the leading edge of Trusted Care healthcare. This month we sat down with Air Education and Training Command’s Surgeon, Col. (Dr.) Gianna R. Zeh, to discuss ongoing improvements, how medical Airmen can succeed, and her personal journey as a leader.

As the Defense Health Agency assumes authority, direction and control of military treatment facilities, the Air Force Medical Service will remain steadfast on its Trusted Care journey towards higher reliability and Zero Harm.
Airmen may need crowns, retainers, night guards or some other form of dental gear. To provide this, dentists take impressions of the patient’s mouth. Once made, they’re taken to the dental lab where the technicians make a mold from the impression. This is the part patients don’t get to witness.

Nationwide Telephone Scam Affecting TRICARE Beneficiaries TRICARE beneficiaries need to be aware of a nationwide telephone scam affecting beneficiaries over 65 and on Medicare. A caller will usually identify themselves as being an official Medicare vendor and will then offer to sell you back braces. The caller may have specific information that makes the call seem official, typically your address, phone numbers and doctor’s name. The caller is hoping this will convince you they are a legitimate vendor and that you will give them your social security number and additional personal information. If you receive a call like this, DO NOT give any of your personal identifiable information, such as birth date, social security number or banking information. TRICARE never asks beneficiaries for this information when calling for an official Department of Defense survey. The Defense Health Agency (DHA) Program Integrity Office is closely monitoring this situation. If you receive a call of this nature, please do not provide your information and contact the DHA Program Integrity Office directly. Effective June 30, the only access to Keesler Medical Center weekdays between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m. as well as all day and night on weekends and holidays for other than staff members is through the Back Bay Tower Emergency Room entrance on the east side of the facility.

(Dr.) Mark Roberts 81st Dental Squadron The Keesler Dental Clinics’ Department of Endodontics is seeking patients needing root canal therapy for treatment in the Endodontic Residency and two-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry programs. Applicants must be a military retiree, family member of a retiree or active-duty family member and have recently been diagnosed by a dentist with an endodontic condition requiring root canal therapy. Eligible patients must obtain a written consult from their referring dentist and fax it to 376-0193 or bring it the Keesler Dental Clinic during normal duty hours. Patients will be selected for treatment based on the needs of the Endodontic and AEGD residency programs. Please call 376-5227 for more information.
TRICARE Service Center Walk-In Service Ending By Master Sgt. Karen Fish 81st Medical Support Squadron Walk-in service at the Keesler Medical Center TRICARE Service Center (TSC) will cease as of April 1. ... Due to current fiscal constraints within the federal government, the Military Health System must continue to provide the best medical care possible while finding ways to reduce cost. Walk-in customer service is the most expensive customer service option. By eliminating this service at TSCs, the Department of Defense estimates savings of approximately $250 million over five years. The Defense Health Agency made the decision as more beneficiaries use convenient Internet and phone options for their TRICARE customer service needs. (More information is available at www.tricare.mil/TSC.) Keesler Medical Center patients still have a wide variety of secure, electronic customer service options available through www.tricare.mil. The new “I want to…..” feature on the site’s front page includes everything beneficiaries need to do online. When walk-in service ends on April 1, beneficiaries who want personal assistance can call Humana, 1-800-444-5445 for help with enrollments and benefits. All health-care, pharmacy, dental and claims contact information is available at www.tricare.mil/contactus. Beneficiaries can get 24/7 TRICARE benefit information at www.tricare.mil, make enrollment and primary care manager changes and obtain more online assistance at www.tricare.mil/enrollment. Instead of driving to an installation TSC, TRICARE beneficiaries can even combine high-tech with low-tech by downloading online health-care forms and sending them in the old-fashioned way through the U.S. Postal Service – at a cost of less than 50 cents. The change does not affect TRICARE benefits or health-care delivery to beneficiaries. In addition, medical out-processing requirements for service members assigned to Keesler Air Force Base will not change. Out-processing service members must still bring a copy of their orders to the TRICARE Services Office located in room 1A222 of the medical center.
TRICARE Retiree Dental Program Open for New Enrollments TRICARE Public Affairs 12/23/2013 - FALLS CHURCH, Va. -- The TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP) offers comprehensive dental coverage to all enrolled members. Available to retired service members and their family, retired National Guard and Reserve members and their family, Medal of Honor recipients, their family and survivors, TRDP is currently open for enrollment.... TRDP covers diagnostic and preventive services, like exams and cleanings at 100 percent. Emergency services and basic restorative services, like fillings, are covered at 80 percent. The annual deductible is $50 per person, each benefit year, and $150 per family per benefit year. The annual maximum benefit is $1,300 per person per year for enhanced enrollees; this is an increase of $100 from last year. The annual maximum for orthodontia increased from $1500 to $1750. Eligible beneficiaries can enroll online through the Beneficiary Web Enrollment website (BWE), www.dmdc.osd.mil/appj/bwe or go to www.trdp.org to print, complete and mail in a TRDP enrollment application. To enroll on the BWE, beneficiaries will need a DS logon, CAC or DFAS login. Enrollees may be asked to enter information to establish an electronic funds transfer (EFT) method for payment of their monthly premiums, but EFT is not an option for the TRDP so enrollees should not enter anything in that section. Federal law requires that TRDP premiums be deducted automatically through a monthly allotment from retirement pay. EFT is available only as an alternative method of payment for beneficiaries who do not receive retired pay or whose retired pay is insufficient to cover the allotment amount. For those eligible to pay TRDP monthly premiums by EFT, visit www.trdp.org to download the EFT authorization form. There is a 12-month commitment for initial enrollments. After a year, beneficiaries can decide to continue on a month to month basis as long as they haven't added additional family members to the plan. If a beneficiary and spouse are already enrolled, adding a child or any other family member resets the 12-month period. Retirees who enroll in TRDP within four months of their retirement date have immediate access to the full benefit package. If they miss that four-month window, there is a 12-month waiting period for coverage of more advanced services such as crowns, bridges and implants. Delta Dental of California manages the TRICARE Retiree Dental Program. The TRICARE office within the medical group has moved from its previous location and is now located on the 1st floor in room 1A222 where admissions and dispositions was previously located. Admissions and dispositions have moved to 2D in the Back Bay Tower with the preadmission staff.
