The Department of the Air Force Component Office of Human Research Protections (DAF COHRP), located within AFMED / SGE-C, administers the DAF Component Management Plan for Human Subject Research on behalf of the Surgeon General of the Air Force.

The DAF COHRP establishes policies and procedures, and provides education and training related to DAF (i.e., both USAF and USSF) Human Research Protection Programs (HRPPs). This office also ensures the compliance of human research reviews after institutional review board approval, and performs site visits at random or for cause audits. The DAF COHRP issues and accepts HRPPs and DoD Assurances for institutions supporting or conducting human research.

These programs are designed to ensure the safe, ethical and regulatorily compliant involvement of human participants in DAF-conducted and -supported research.

Information on these pages contain guidance for establishing Human Research Protection Programs and DoD Assurances, as required for supporting and/or conducting human research in the DAF, as well as for obtaining review and approval from the DAF COHRP for activities not conducted under an already established HRPP.
