Health professionals from across the Air Force, DOD and private industry are meeting at Air University next week to diagnose the educational and training needs of medical Airmen and to offer remedies for any needed changes.

Attendees of the Air University Surgeon General Medical Force Development Summit, Oct. 11-14, 2016, will take a holistic as well as a tactical look at the force development of medical Airmen of all ranks with the stated end goal of providing the best possible care to patients.

“The relationship the Air Force Medical Service has with Air University and other partners is invaluable in our journey toward deliberate force development,” said Brig. Gen. James Burks, director of Manpower, Personnel and Resources, Office of the Air Force Surgeon General. “In collaboration with Air University and others, we will more effectively develop medical Airmen with precisely targeted combinations of technical, organizational and leadership knowledge and skills. This effort will help to continuously improve the capability of the Air Force Medical Service to assure mission readiness and deliver trusted care to our patients.”

Air University is the ideal location for the summit because of the ease of collaboration with and access to the schools and colleges that provide the professional military education, professional continuing education and officer development to medical Airmen.

“Air University has a legacy of innovation and delivering solutions to challenging problems,” said Col. Paul Nelson, summit organizer and Air War College Surgeon General’s Chair to Air University. “Its reputation of leaning forward and being a builder of agile leaders makes it the perfect environment in which our medical partners can discuss how the surgeon general’s team can tackle the strategy of deliberate medical force development.”
