Genetics Laboratory

Mission: To provide focused genetic services relating to patient care and counseling, provide education, and laboratory testing in support of health care facilities within the Department of Defense.

About us: Established in 1979, the Air Force Medical Genetics center (AFMG) is the only medical genetics center of its kind in the entire Department of Defense. It has always maintained a commitment to patient care and excellence in laboratory testing. With the unwavering support of the Air Force Medical Service leadership, the center has matured into a premier laboratory and clinical services provider. The center offers all manner of prenatal diagnosis, cytogenetic laboratory services, molecular genetics, clinical genetics and genetics education.

The genetics center is located within Keesler Medical Center, Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Miss. The facility is accredited by The Joint Commission and the laboratory is Certified by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). We are also accredited by the Department of Defense Clinical laboratory Improvement Program (CLIP). Compliance with all of these requirements ensures high quality and gold standards of practices.

The Air Force Medical Genetics Center is focused on providing clinical and laboratory diagnostic services to support all Department of Defense facilities located worldwide. Our team is comprised of clinical geneticists, genetic counselor, biomedical laboratory officer, molecular specialists, cytogenetic technologists, genetic assistants and clinical coordinators.
