Colonel Scot S. Spann serves as the Commander, 21st Medical Group, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado. He is the senior medical advisor to two wing commanders at Air Force Space Command’s largest medical group with a team of more than 550 medical professionals providing healthcare and mission-readiness support for more than 26,000 active duty, retired and family members while collaborating regional healthcare delivery for over 174,000 Department of Defense beneficiaries in the Colorado Springs community and 59 geographically separated units around the globe. Additionally, he leads public health, environmental surveillance and medical contingency and disaster response for Peterson Air Force Base, Schriever Air Force Base and Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station serving a workforce of more than 12,000 employees. Colonel Spann oversees a $25 million operating budget, a 10-building medical campus and an Aerospace Physiology Unit that provides 1800 chamber sorties for more than 100 agencies per year, while also being responsible for the Air Force's largest Area Dental Laboratory which supports 350 tri-Service and Veterans Affairs dental facilities worldwide.

Colonel Spann entered the Air Force after receiving his regular commission in 1994 upon graduation from the United States Air Force Academy. He has held various leadership positions in Medical Logistics, Resource Management, Health Facilities and Medical Operations at the Flight, Squadron, Group and Staff level. He commanded the 460th Medical Support Squadron and served as the Deputy Group Commander & Administer for the Buckley Clinic, which included a Joint Venture with the Veterans Affairs, Eastern Colorado Healthcare System. Prior to assuming his current role, he was the Defense Health Agency’s Deputy Director for Health Facilities, responsible for planning, programming, budgeting and executing a $4 Billion annual facility life cycle management program to support a $34 Billion asset portfolio ensuring facilities performance aligned with Military Health System strategy.

Colonel Spann deployed to Afghanistan in 2007, where he developed a healthcare facility master plan for the Combined Joint Operating Area and worked extensively with foreign governments regarding healthcare infrastructure development and healthcare capacity building.

Colonel Spann holds a Master’s of Business Administration and a Master’s of Science in Information Systems and is board certified in healthcare management. He is married to the former Jennifer Melisa Sinko of Wayzata, Minnesota; they have two sons and one daughter: Andrew, Benjamin & Alexis.
